π· Spring 2 Overview – Year 1/2 (Holly Class)
We’re looking forward to another fantastic half term in Holly Class, full of creativity, discovery and hands-on learning! πβ¨
π English
This term, our narrative focus is Julian is a Mermaid. Children will explore themes of individuality and self-expression while developing their storytelling skills. They will write their own engaging narratives, thinking carefully about characters, feelings and descriptive language.
In Poetry, we will be exploring free verse and similes, experimenting with creative language to express ideas and emotions. π§βοΈπ
π’ Maths
In Maths, we’ll be focusing on multiplication and division, building understanding through practical resources and problem-solving activities.
We will also learn about length and height, developing our measuring skills, and explore statistics, interpreting and creating simple charts and graphs. ππ
π¬ Science
Our topic is Animals Including Humans. We will learn about life cycles, how animals (including humans) grow and change, and the importance of keeping our bodies healthy through exercise, diet and hygiene. π£π¦
π¦οΈ Geography
In Geography, we will be investigating the question: What is the weather like in the UK?
Children will explore seasonal changes, weather patterns and how weather can vary across the United Kingdom. βοΈπ§οΈβοΈ
π» Computing (Purple Mash)
This half term, children will be creating animated stories using Purple Mash. They will develop their creativity while building skills in sequencing, editing and presenting digital content. π¬π₯οΈ
π οΈ Design and Technology
Our focus is stable structures. Children will design, build and evaluate their own structures, learning how to make them strong and sturdy using different materials and techniques. ποΈ
π PE
In PE, children will continue developing their fundamental movement skills through a range of engaging activities that promote teamwork, coordination and confidence. π€ΈβοΈ
π RE
Our big question this half term is: Why does Easter matter to Christians?
Children will learn about the Easter story and explore why it is an important celebration for Christians. βοΈπΌ
π¬ PSHE (Jigsaw)
Our theme is Healthy Me. Children will learn about keeping their bodies healthy, making safe choices and understanding how to look after their physical and mental wellbeing. ππ
π΅ Music
Using PBuzz, children will begin learning to play a brass instrument. They will explore pitch, rhythm and simple notation while enjoying making music together. πΊπΆ
π² Forest School
Outdoor learning continues this half term! Children will develop resilience, teamwork and independence through practical, nature-based activities. π³π
